Oh lovely. I'm looking forward to growing more veggies again next summer (I'm in New Zealand so it's winter here). Our soil was in a terrible state so spent the last year just growing cover crops but I think this year it'll be much better.

This is such a lovely post Debbie, I took on an allotment last year and it is my refuge and sanctuary. I love how much wildlife you see too 🌻🌱 I

Your rose arch is beautiful!

I also had an allotment but sadly had to give it up as I had no idea what I was doing, working full-time and studying for a degree, it was all sadly too much. I'm back on the waiting list but there are at least 70 people on that list with no more applicants being accepted onto the lust. A huge demand!

So, I decided to create my own garden allotment on the bit of unused land we have adjacent to our house. It's been a lot of work but seeing things growing now, makes it all worth it! I'm hoping for a few blueberries this year! ☺️☺️☺️

I'm so passionate about people growing their own food, in whatever space they can, and definitely think seasonal eating should go back to being a core thing.

Oh thank you 🌸🙏. I love my rose arch, it has been at it's best this year and the scent is just divine.

I'm sorry to hear you had to give up your plot, but I totally understand your reasons. It's fantastic that you are growing in your garden though, I love that. Fingers crossed for your blueberries 🤞😊

We grow what we can on our very sunny deck. This year, we have lettuce, strawberries (alpine and everbearing) some herbs and green onions. Oh and carrots that my daughter planted up in pots before she moved out and left to my care 😂. It gets hot on our deck in the summer so keeping up with the daily watering is essential. The lettuce will bolt soon in the coming heat waves and I’ll probably replace with some kale and basil.

That all sounds wonderful. Home grown strawberries are so delicious aren't they. 😊🍓

Another gorgeous post Debbie ! We would love to grow our own food, especially as a couple of vegans 🤪 I've had our name down on a popular council allotment waiting list for actual years ... Lol 😂 but we are still patiently waiting ! Thank you for the gentle inspiration again this weekend 🙏 LOVE

Aww thanks Emily, you are very kind 🙏💕.

Allotments have become so popular again in recent years haven't they. I hope you don't have to wait too much longer. In the meantime maybe you could try a few herbs in pots on your windowsills perhaps?

I would love to grow my own food but it’s the time commitment that worries me (and the fact that I am not green thumbed in the slightest!) You have inspired me though. Perhaps I’ll add my name to the council’s waiting list and see what happens. ☺️ I went to a restaurant in Norfolk a couple of years ago where they grew a lot of the vegetables they served on their allotment in the village and I thought then what a great idea it was. I also love your rose arch - what a beauty!

Awww thank you 🌸🙏. I must admit roses are my favourite bit of the garden. It's right next to the back door so the scent hits me the moment I open the door 💖.

Allotments do need a lot of time commitment that's for sure, but it is so rewarding. We knew next to nothing about growing when we took ours on - you just learn as you go - plus your plot neighbours will often impart their knowledge too. We got lots of things wrong, even up to the time we left. Always a learning day I say 😊 I hope you go for it, it's a great experience.
