Anything is possible when you have the right people there with you.
Hello my friend.
A very warm welcome to my little corner of Substack today. Come on in and join the party. We are celebrating 😁
I am doing a little happy dance right now, I’m so happy to have reached the 100 milestone. I couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you 💖.
I know it seems like a small number to some but I refuse to compare myself to anyone else on Substack. I started from scratch with zero subscribers, I didn’t have a mailing list to bring over. I am not a published author. Nor am I an experienced writer. But what I do have is a passion for writing, learning and sharing. I love what I do and I love being here in your company.
I am so pleased you are here and a huge thank you for your continued support, with your likes, comments and shares. It means the world to me.
A little about me for those of you who have recently joined our community.
Although I write here on Substack, publishing weekly newsletters, I also have a day job. I work as a data analyst for a manufacturing company who supply parts to the car industry. I work a four day week, eight hours per day. I am married to
We have a gorgeous cat Thomas. We love travelling and we recently bought a van and converted it to a camper so we can extend our travel adventures.More about me here and here if you want to dive deeper.
What Simple and Slow living means to me.
I was recently asked what slow living meant to me. Giving it some thought I concluded with the following:-
Finding small pockets of time throughout the day to stop and focus on breathing. This allows the body and mind to slow down and refocus.
Mindfulness. Nothing epitomises slow living more than mindfulness. Single-tasking instead of multi-tasking. Focussing on just one activity and practicing self-awareness.
Gratitude. Being grateful for all that one has and all that’s around us. This, in so many ways, helps to reduce the excess in our lives. By appreciating what we have slows down the necessity to want more, more, more.
Simplicity. Simplifying the possessions in ones home (decluttering). Keeping just those things that are important to us or bring us joy, or both. Decisions suddenly become easier.
A great example of this is our wardrobes. A parred back wardrobe makes choosing an outfit to wear so much easier. Have you ever been in the position (or you know someone who has), of facing a wardrobe rammed with clothes trying to find something suitable? Then claiming that we/they have nothing to wear. Said person then just has to go out and buy a new outfit, thus adding to the problem.
This is classic overwhelm because of having too much choice. Decluttering really is the key to simplicity. This applies to many other areas of our life, not just the wardrobe.

In my time here on Substack I have discovered some wonderful writers. Here are a few whose writing I enjoy and highly recommend.
If you have any to recommend to me, please let me know in the comments.
In case you missed them, here are some other publications that you will enjoy.
Until next time.

Congratulation, Meredith! When I was reading this post I thought 'that could be me' (except that I'm still below 50 subscribers 😄). I'm also working 4 days a week (as a project manager), we also love to travel and explore with our VW California, and we have now a dog (we had cats in the past but decided on a dog so that we can take her on our travels with us). And instead of writing I'm a hobby potter. I will now go and explore your Substack further. Who knows, perhaps I'll find more similarities. 😊
Wonderful, Debbie, Congratulations! I'm so glad I found you here. 💞
