To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. Audrey Hepburn.
Hello my friend
I found myself with a few moments to spare over the weekend, so I took the opportunity to wander quietly around my tranquil little imperfect garden.Â
A garden showing ample evidence of seasonal change, but to my surprise I noticed a number of plants still believing it is summer. Shall I tell them it’s Autumn or just enjoy their display of colour for a little while longer?
My hanging basket of fuchsia’s. Still in bloom!Â
A few bedding plants quietly determined to carry on.
A climbing rose with buds still forming. There were several rosehips evident too. I left the buds on, as I didn’t want to encourage more to grow. The rose needs to be resting now to put its energy back into its roots.Â
The summer flowering clematis too, with a couple of flowers on.
I love how stubborn nature can be, don’t you? Although, I would prefer to be fully immersed in Autumn now, with a few frosty days. Although our blooms hold so much beauty, there is also much beauty to be found in decaying, dying plants.
You could be fooled into thinking it was late summer, but Autumn is ever present as I look deeper.Â
A blueberry bush with deep red leaves. Most have dropped now, but a handful remain.
An acer, with its last few leaves, a beautiful hue of burgundy. The leaves are crinkled up and ready to fall.
The teasel patch. Blue flowers that the bees loved so much have been replaced with sharp needle like heads dispersing their seeds for next years bounty. Â Â These make a great Autumnal display. Â Â Be sure to remove the seeds first though.
The hydrangea next to my back door is changing colour too. From its gentle red to a light brown. They will remain this way until they are deadheaded in the spring once new shoots appear.  These make lovely displays too.
Nature is forever full of surprises, wherever your eyes wander.
Until next time
Debbie xx
Lovely 🥰
We have a couple of roses hanging on, and there’s a large fuchsia down the road, but looking at the weather forecast, I think there may be a change on the horizon coming in a week or so 🌿
