Spring is Natureβs way of saying βLetβs Partyβ. Robin Williams.
Hello my friend.
A very warm welcome to our little corner of Substack today. Itβs a beautiful morning, shall we sit outside and enjoy the early morning sun?
Spring has made a deliciously welcome return to us, the ball of yellow in the sky is feeling warm against our skin. And what a great start to the season weβve had so far.
Glorious sun filled days. The daffodils are blooming and the tulips are starting to bud up. The morning birdsong is back.
The world is smiling, it is a beautiful time.
What is it that we love so much about Spring?
Spring marks a time of rebirth and renewal in nature. Blooming flowers of yellow and blue that attract the bees. The warmer temperatures and longer days. The return of wildlife. All contributing to ones sense of optimism and joy.
After a long winter of dormancy and cold, Spring brings with it a resurgence of life. Everywhere we look becomes green once more, new buds appear on the trees and shrubs and a rainbow of colour fills the gaps again.
Spring is synonymous with the explosion of colourful flowers, adding so much beauty to the landscape. Blossom filled trees, the yellow and orange of Daffodils, the purples of crocus, and the vast array of colour that comes with the tulips.
Animals that hibernated or migrated during the Winter are returning to their habitats. Frogs are returning to ponds, bees are searching for their food. The welcoming dawn chorus is back. Spring is also the season of new life with many animals reproducing. Listen for the croaking frogs in your nearby ponds. Look out for bleating lambs in the fields.
Last weekend saw the return of British Summertime, where we moved our clocks forward by one hour, essentially giving us extra daylight in the evening. The temperature is becoming milder. The cosy jumpers we wore during winter are being replaced by thinner tops as we let our skin see sunlight and feel the fresh air once more. Doesnβt it feel good?
Nature awakens, as do we.
Spring means a fresh start and an opportunity to leave behind the winter blues, with a renewed sense of energy and optimism.
The warmer weather, increased sunshine and daylight hours have a positive impact on ones mood and wellbeing, as well as encouraging us to spend more time outdoors.
The increased daylight that Spring brings helps the body to produce vitamin D, which is essential for our overall health, in improved sleep patterns, bone health, immunity and boosting our serotonin levels in the brain which helps mood regulation.
Spending time outdoors in nature reduces stress levels and increases feelings of happiness and relaxation, promoting a sense of calm.
Spring has sprung. As we move into the season of blooming and rebirth how will you shine your creative light?
What will you do to embrace the renewed energy of Spring?
Here are some suggestions to try:
If you havenβt already, set some new goals and intentions for the coming year.
Go out in the garden and get your hands dirty. Tidy up those beds and plant some flowers and herbs. If you donβt have a garden bring nature inside. Add some herb pots to your kitchen windowsill.
Take a walk in nature. Observe the returning wildlife and enjoy the colourful array of Spring flowers. Or find somewhere nice to sit and enjoy some quiet time reading.
Pack a basket and enjoy a picnic in the park with friends and family.
Attend a local event like a farmers market.
Wake early and witness a sunrise. Celebrate the return of longer days.
Open your windows and give your home a spring clean.
Embrace creativity. Pick up a paintbrush, try photography or needlework. Engaging in creative activities can be a calming way to express oneself.
In case you didnβt already know, I started my declutter series last week. A month by month gentle process of clearing our homes and minds.

Decluttering the slow way |01
Physical possessions are a burden. They take money to buy and time to maintain. They take up physical space in our homes and mental space in our mind. Every physical item around us competes for our attention and adds stress to our lives. Joshua Becker.
Have a beautiful and calm week.
Until next time.
